How are you doing?
Seriously.
Take a moment and think about that question.
Not just the quick answer you give when someone asks in passing. Not the automatic “I’m fine” that rolls off your tongue before you’ve had a chance to think.
How are you really doing?
Today marks the beginning of June, and somehow we’ve already reached the halfway point of the year.
Six months ago, many of us entered 2026 with goals, plans, prayers, and expectations. We set intentions. We created vision boards. We asked God to guide our steps. We imagined what this year might look like. Now it’s time for a check-in.
How are those goals coming along?
What’s been working?
What’s been challenging?
What victories, big or small, have you celebrated lately?
Sometimes we become so focused on what we haven’t accomplished that we forget to acknowledge how far we’ve already come. Maybe you’re ahead of schedule. Maybe you’re behind. Maybe some goals no longer fit who you are today. That’s okay. Growth isn’t always measured by checklists and deadlines. Sometimes the greatest progress happens quietly, behind the scenes, in ways no one else can see. And believe it or not, Christmas is only six months away.
If there was ever a time to pause, reflect, adjust, and refocus, this is it.
June also gives us many reasons to celebrate, reflect, and connect.
June is Black Men Mental Health Month. Although there are months set aside to heighten awareness we remember the importance all year. Just like keeping your physical wellness appointments, getting your teeth cleaned regularly or your annual prostate exam or mammogram. Let's ensure we are prioritizing our mental health.
It is Black Music Month, a time to honor the extraordinary contributions of Black artists whose creativity, innovation, and influence have shaped every genre of music we enjoy today. From gospel and jazz to blues, R&B, hip-hop, country, and beyond, Black music continues to tell stories, inspire movements, and bring people together.
June is also home to Father’s Day, when we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, mentors, coaches, and father figures who have helped shape our lives.
And on June 19, we observe Juneteenth, a powerful reminder of freedom, progress, perseverance, and the continued pursuit of equality and opportunity for all.
Beyond goals and observances, I want to encourage you to think about experiences.
What memories do you want to create this summer?
What places do you want to explore?
Who do you want to spend more time with?
What have you been putting off that deserves your attention?
If travel is on your list this summer, consider adding experiences that educate, inspire, and connect you to history, culture, and community.
The Obama Presidential Center officially opens on June 19 in Chicago. The center celebrates leadership, civic engagement, community, and the legacy of President and Mrs. Obama through exhibits, public spaces, art, and educational programming.
Since June is also Black Music Month, another destination worth adding to your travel list is the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville. The museum is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history and impact of music created, influenced, and inspired by African Americans. It is an incredible experience that connects visitors to the sounds and stories that have shaped American culture.
As you move through this month, spend a little time reflecting:
• What goals still matter most to you?
• What needs to be adjusted?
• What have you learned about yourself so far this year?
• Where do you need to give yourself more grace?
• What do you want the next six months to look like?
As for me, I’m ahead in some areas and behind in others. But I’m grateful.
Grateful for the lessons. Grateful for the opportunities. Grateful for the people who continue to encourage me. And grateful for another day to keep showing up and doing the work God has placed before me.
If there’s a way I can encourage you, support you, pray for you, or simply cheer you on, please let me know. We’re all navigating something. Sometimes the greatest gift we can give one another is a reminder that we don’t have to do it alone.
Let’s go, June! 💪🏾
There’s still plenty of year left. ⏰
