God’s Waiting Room

Updated: Apr 15

During a recent sermon, the pastor mentioned that some of us are in God’s waiting room. This statement, though part of a broader message, resonated deeply with me.
In our daily lives, waiting rooms often trigger feelings of frustration and impatience. We watch the clock, anxious for our turn, wondering why others seem to move ahead. However, in God’s waiting room, waiting is not passive—it’s a period of preparation and growth.

I have been in this waiting room for many months, diligently and productively seeking God and my next assignment. I understand that faith without works is dead (James 2:14-26), so I continue to take actionable steps toward my goals.

I faced a moment of doubt while finalizing my Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME) final paper. No - it was beyond a doubt. It was more like a mini meltdown. Questions arose: Is this certification relevant to my next role? Should I continue?

I began to become frustrated and unable to think. I decided to take a break and stepped away to grab food at Sim’s BBQ on John Barrow in Little Rock, the oldest Black-owned restaurant in the city. Upon entering, I noticed a line to place orders and a subsequent wait for the food. I took a seat and patiently waited. As I was seated, the owner walked in, and my thoughts began to dwell on the challenges he might have faced over the years. I imagined obstacles at every turn and moments when giving up may have seemed tempting. Watching the busy restaurant, with a constant stream of customers entering, quickly reminded me that if I gave up, I wouldn't reap the long-term benefits. It also reminded me that quitting is not an option. Whether or not I utilize this certification in the future, I must finish what I started. It's essential to exercise proper etiquette while waiting, beginning with my faith to trust that God will fulfill His promises.

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." — Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)

Having submitted my final paper for the Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME) certification ahead of the deadline, I now enter a period of waiting for the results, expected next month. During this time, I remain prayerful and continue to work diligently, trusting in God's plan and timing.

"Therefore, I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me." — Micah 7:7 (KJV)

The sermon concluded with a powerful reminder: God meets us in our action. We must work while we wait, trusting that our efforts, combined with faith, will lead us to our next opportunity.

"I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread." — Psalm 37:25 (KJV)

I am reminding myself, and possibly some of you reading this, that facing the challenges of this season is natural. However, adopting a mindset of gratitude changes my outlook. My faith is steadfast in God, believing that He will not withhold any good thing. I will keep trusting Him while I stay in His waiting room, assured that He is sustaining me.
